The Maltese islands have a rich history, offering tourists and travellers a touch of ancient heritage but with modern comforts and conveniences. Whether it’s simply fun in the sun or a more cultural holiday, hotels and other accommodation for an enjoyable Malta holiday are available in all the popular tourist areas, as well as in the quieter remote villages. Coastal locations are popular, but even if you prefer an inland spot, you are never far from the sea.

Either way, a wide range of hotels and other types of accommodation are available in Malta and Gozo to suit all budgets. One can choose from a range of luxury Malta hotels, and Malta villas, self-catering apartments, bed and breakfast, student hostels and rustic Gozo farmhouses.

In Malta, popular tourist areas include Sliema and Valletta, ideal for shopping, St. Julians and Paceville, perfect for a night out in bars and nightclubs, Mellieha, St. Paul’s Bay, Bugibba and Qawra for those looking for a relaxing holiday by the sea.

Gozo is excellent for romantic break or getaways, so if you’re keener to relax, be pampered and enjoy the romance, escape to the island of Gozo.

Malta Hotels

Whether you’re in Malta for a romantic getaway, a family holiday or on a business trip, a large number of hotels are available in various parts of Malta. Hotels in Malta range from 3-star to 5-star luxury resorts, thus suiting all budgets. Most can be found in the Northern parts of the island, concentrated in the St. Paul’s Bay/Bugibba, Sliema and St. Julian’s areas.

Most hotels in Malta provide stunning views from their location by the edge of the sea. One can relax by the pool or on a nearby beach. Some hotels also have an agreement with a nearby scuba diving school, where you can discover some of the best diving in Europe.

Holiday Villas

Private villas in Malta and Gozo are available for short holiday stays and offer a Mediterranean style holiday home. Holiday villas usually have a pool and are mostly situated in small villages in the countryside.

Gozo Farmhouses

Unlike the bigger island of Malta, which, though beautiful, has an urban air, Gozo is more rural, with farmlands and hilly scenery. Renting a Farmhouse would be ideal for those wanting to discover the island of Gozo or looking for a romantic getaway. Most Gozo Farmhouse rentals are on self-catering accommodation basis and are more spacious than the usual small hotel rooms. The stone buildings have been updated with modern kitchens and bathrooms, but retain the feel of history. Some properties have their own private swimming pool and outdoor barbeque facilities.  Most Gozo Farmhouse rentals are available for holiday rental all year round.

You can pretend to be a Gozitan and do your daily shopping at the outdoor markets which are filled with locally grown produce, and you can buy fresh fish straight off the boat down in the harbours.   Or, you can go out to eat or drink at the island’s many restaurants, cafes and bars.

Self-catering apartments

If you’re looking for a bargain holiday in Malta, self-catering holiday apartments would be the best option since these can offer you an inexpensive, independent lodging. Holiday apartments are ideal for families seeking a quiet vacation by the sea in the luxury of their own private guesthouse as opposed to hotel rooms.

Self-catering apartments are mostly located close to the sea in various areas of Malta and Gozo. Properties usually sleep 2 to 6 persons in 1 to 3 bedroom apartments. Such apartments can be found as part of larger hotels but can also be rented from private owners. Many of the self-catering accommodations have sun terraces and/or a swimming pool or in the case of some apartments, access to a common shared pool.

Youth Hostels

A number of youth hostels offer lodging for short stays, usually used by those partaking in outdoor activities such as hiking or biking.

Before travelling, one can make use of a number of websites which offer accommodation in Malta and Gozo. One can easily check the availability of the selected accommodation and use secure online booking services to make confirmed reservations.
